We all have those jeans we can’t live without, regardless of current trends. While skinny jeans are always a wardrobe staple and chic everyday style, I’ve always preferred a flare or wide leg jean – so needless to say I am thrilled for all of the new denim trends this year! This season’s denim trends take a note from decades past from wide leg denim of the 70s, high-waist straight or tapered denim from the 80s, baggy fits from the 90s, and of course the forever classic skinny.

WIDE LEG

One of my new favorite styles this season is wide leg denim. They’re a bolder take on my favorite flares, plus they are hands down the most comfortable jeans ever! I love how you can dress them up for a business casual look or pair them with sneakers and a tee for a casual vibe.

I snagged these this season from Express and the denim is sooo soft! (Note: No matter how many designer denim brands I try, Express is still one of my favorite places to purchase jeans! They always have the best cuts, softest fabrics, and just the right amount of stretch for comfy everyday jeans)

FLARE & BOOT CUT

Since I’m 5’4, I’ve always loved the way I can hide a pair of heels under flares for a more elongated silhouette. Not only are they the most flattering for my body type, the fit is so comfortable! From bold flares to subtle boot cuts, these jeans are are my personal favorite!

BAGGY

Unlike wide leg denim that has a tailored fit, baggy jeans are a flashback to the 90s with a loose fit around the hips with a relaxed and casual fit. Pair them with a graphic tee for a grunge vibe or a flowy blouse and aviators for a boho twist.

TAPERED

While I haven’t snagged a pair of tapered denim this season yet, the cropped cut pairs perfectly with a pair of strappy mules or tucked into a pair of knee high boots! If you’re not a fan of the balloon shape, the next trend is the best alternative!

HIGH-WAIST STRAIGHT

Similar to the mom-jeans cut, high-waist straight jeans are a timeless fit that effortlessly give a put-together look. The high-waist cut is so flattering, and the cropped hem is the perfect way to show off your favorite heels or booties! I personally love light washed denim for this style, but you can’t go wrong with any wash!
