Cutouts are nothing new in the fashion world, as designers have been showcasing slivers of skin for years. Though it’s hard to imagine a daring update on the cutout forefront, designers have reinvented this look once again with NYFW’s new trend: exposed hips.
A trend that may have started from the return on the Baywatch-esque high-cut swimsuits, designers are now finding ways to show off this usually hidden body part through hip cutouts. From daring panels to side-bearing slits, this bold and controversial trend (sometimes referred to as “pelvage”) is guaranteed to cause a double take.
