TREND ALERT: The Midi Dress

Midi Dress with Slit

We’ve talked about it before, but the lengthening of hemlines has been such a big influence in trends over the past couple seasons. I don’t know about you, but when I was in college I would never be caught dead wearing a dress or skirt beneath my kneecaps, no way. Dresses were mini and daring, short and flirty. With the newest midi hemlines, we can now embrace a more sophisticated shape in our wardrobe – which is perfect for my mid-twenties ensemble!

We’ve shared our love for midi skirts and pencil skirts, but today I’m sharing my favorite new shape for dresses: the midi dress. Now, nothing about a tube-shaped, calf-length dress is really THAT new, but it’s definitely a throwback trend that everyone needs at least ONE of in their closet this season. For the River Island Cocktail Party at the rewardStyle conference recently, I wore this citrus midi dress with a bold clutch for the outdoor fete. Since I am more on the shorter spectrum, I kept accessories to a minimum and paired a simple metallic pump with the look. Check out my midi dress look below:
[ side note: In case you are wondering why I am just now posting this and you haven’t seen any party pics on insta, we can blame the spontaneous tornado warning and torrential downpour that flooded the tent, leaving hundreds of females running through downtown soaked.. quite the scene. ]
