As twenty-somethings living in Dallas, finding a desirable apartment with a huge patio generally isn’t an easy task! Though we are thrilled we don’t have to deal with a lawn and garden yet, an inviting outdoor space is definitely a must in our opinion. One of the things we notice a lot of times (and we have been guilty of this in the past!) is people spend so much time and effort decorating their apartment, but toss a couple outdoor chairs and a candle on their patio and call it a day. Though space may often be limited, we wanted to show our readers that an outdoor small patio can easily turn into an extended living room when the right pieces are added!
For this project, we teamed up with one of our favorite retailers, World Market, to show that you can completely revamp your outdoor space easily with one store – saving plenty of time and energy, without breaking the bank! Since we have plenty of dining space inside our home, we wanted to turn our patio into a second living room for entertaining. The best place to start with decorating is to choose one signature piece and work from there. We chose this outdoor occasional bench, since the shape matched our modern interior theme and the white cushions served as a neutral canvas, allowing us to update the color scheme each season. Tossing on a couple bright oversized pillows and a soft throw gives an inviting and cozy touch to the bench.
Since transition is key to decorating small spaces, we decided to choose a couple stools to serve as our coffee table for entertaining, while also allowing for extra seating if your party grows. Rather than purchasing a chair from the couch collection, we decided to save space and add a pop of color with a smaller turquoise chair and stool.
One of my must-have items for an outdoor space is a rug, and this is one of the easiest ways to make a space feel cozier and more put-together. World Market has such a wide variety of rugs (all very affordable!), so we chose a neutral gray and blue printed rug for our space, which also has a bold blue and gray striped print on the other side! Adding a selection of accessories like a blanket basket for chilly nights or a geometric terrarium is a great way to make the place feel unique.
