Swimsuit season is upon us – are you ready? While I’ve always been an itty-bitty-bikini kind of girl, I’ve completely fallen in love with one-pieces. Despite the fact they offer a tad more coverage, I just love how chic and sophisticated they look. Add a floppy hat and an oversized pair of sunnies, and you’re ready to hit the sand!
While there are so many cute one-pieces available this season, discovering what styles are the most flattering on your shape is key to rocking the one-piece. Today I’m sharing my tips for finding the perfect swimsuit for your body type:
To Flatter Your Chest, It’s All About The Neckline
The number one way to find a flattering one-piece is to pick a style based on your chest size. I’ve always been pretty flat-chested, and as much as I love the look of an 80’s frong, the straight across one-piece makes me look more like a teen lifeguard in a speedo than a supermodel. It works for some, but not for me. If you have a small bust, try choosing a swimsuit with a low-cut front for a flattering and flirty look. If you’re big busted, try the deep scoop style or a lace up – it looks amazing! One style that’s flattering on all shapes: Bustier. Whether you need a little push-up for a small chest or a bit more support for a larger chest, a bustier one-piece is universally flattering!
To Elongate Your Legs, Choose A Swimsuit With A High-Cut
We highlighted the frong last year, but a swimsuit with a higher-cut elongates your legs and slims your frame. Look for styles that have a bit more curve to for a more flattering fit – plus, it gives a cheeky fit to the back.
If You Like Arm Coverage, Choose An Off-The-Shoulder Ruffle
If you’re insecure about your arms (I hate lifting weights too), choose an off-the-shoulder ruffle swimsuit. These are ultra-flattering on your arms, plus they make your decolletage look feminine and flawless!
Highlight Your Shape With Cut-Outs
Though I love a classic one-piece like this, cut-outs are an amazing way to flaunt your figure. An under-boob cutout is generally flattering on all shapes, and side cut-outs (especially on a black one-piece) are great for slimming! Besides, cut-outs give a little edge to classic cuts – so give it a try!
When In Doubt Go Black
While a subtle print can be chic on the right one-piece, I prefer to choose a solid one-piece. A solid suit looks ultra-sleek and isn’t too distracting on the eye. However, when in doubt, I always go black. As much as I love my white one-piece I ordered last year for Greece, it definitely shows more imperfections when wet than my favorite black one-piece. Despite how perfect or imperfect your shape is, there really is nothing chicer than a classic black one-piece.
Shop Online & Plan To Return
My last tip for shopping for the perfect one-piece is to give yourself lots of options and shop online. Shopping for swimsuits is much easier to do online, since you have privacy and time to decide how you like them in your own home. For my last vacation, I ordered 10 one-pieces and kept 3. Sure it was a bit discouraging when I saw how some fit my figure as compared to the model, but giving myself lots of options allowed me to find a few I LOVED and see what styles worked – and which failed.
My Favorite One-Piece: the Black ASOS Multiway Swimsuit. You can tie this swimsuit so many different ways + it’s ultra flattering!
