How To Wear A Peter Pan Collar

The Peter Pan Collar: Love It Or Hate It?

The peter pan collar is one of the oldest fashion trends around and has made a debut in nearly every decade for the past 100 years. Though it got it’s name from – you guessed it – Peter Pan’s famous top, this collar appeals to many personalities and styles. Aside from the fact it reminds me a LOT of all of the smocked dresses my mom put me in as a young tot (always overdressed, I now know where I got that from!), I think a peter pan collar can be so feminine and chic.

The number one thing I look for in a peter pan collar is structure. There’s nothing I hate more than a thin collar than flaps around or wrinkles during the day, so it’s best to stick with high quality fabric when wearing this trend. Second, since I tend to prefer more feminine fashion, I LOVE a collar that’s paired with a conservative and sophisticated sheath. A short hemline or classic A-line both do the trick, and if the fabric has florals, I’m totally sold.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite collared dresses for you to shop this season, but this new Alice + Olivia dress is one of my favorites. I recently wore it during my stay at the Proper Hotel in San Francisco, but it’s perfect for almost every occasion! My favorite part of this dress is the floral scalloped hemline – I’m all about the details. To add a pop of color, I paired it with my forever-favorite pink Saint Laurent clutch.
