Have you ever gotten ready for date night, felt confident about your makeup, then caught a glimpse of yourself in the restaurant mirror in complete shock that you went way too heavy on the contour? Or perhaps your face looks completely washed out, when you thought you applied the right amount of bronzer? It happens. The fact is that it may not be YOU that’s causing the mistake, but it’s your lighting.
When I first moved into my new house, I noticed I was frequently going too heavy on my makeup. I’ve had the same makeup routine for years, so why was I having such a hard time blending? The answer: my bathroom lighting. When I lived in an apartment, I never had to worry about choosing light bulbs. I simply sent in a maintenance request, and my bulb was replaced. Ah the simplicity. However, now that I am in charge of choosing the right bulbs, I realized I had no idea what type to choose!
Seriously y’all, lighting makes all the difference.
After lots of research and plenty of trial and error, I’m excited to share the best options for applying makeup!
WHAT TYPE OF LIGHTING TO AVOID
If you’ve ever been light bulb shopping, you know it can be a tad overwhelming. From light bulb type to wattage, there are so many factors to consider for your space. If you’re looking for the best lighting for makeup application, these are three types to avoid:
- Fluorescent Lights: There’s nothing more unflattering than fluorescent lighting, so always avoid these bulbs in your makeup room. They have a tendency to wash out your skin and highlight every imperfection, making it easy to go too heavy on the makeup, especially bronzer.
- Yellow Lighting: Generic light bulbs tend to have a yellow hue which can make you look tired, causing you to go too heavy on the concealer and powder.
- Rose Color Light: Rose color lighting is the most flattering, but it’s the worst for applying makeup because it’s hard to see what colors you’re applying or how to blend.
WHY YOU NEED FINALLY LIGHT BULBS
We’ve all heard about the benefits of LED lighting, but Finally Light Bulbs take lighting one step further using their patented Tesla Technology to produce a new full-spectrum light that allows you to see natural colors the way they were meant to be seen. Unlike LED lighting, Finally has 66% less harsh blue light, which brings out the true colors and textures of items around you.
There’s nothing that makes me feel prettier than doing my makeup in a bathroom with the sunlight shining in, but windows aren’t always an option OR sometimes it’s a gloomy day. What I love most about Finally Light Bulbs is how they mimic natural light, which provides the most flattering and honest lighting for applying makeup. Not only does it make the application process easier, I can feel confident knowing I will look the same when I step outside.
Another reason I love Finally Light Bulbs is because they last for 15 years! I’ll be honest, I’m one of those people that loves to shop but ALWAYS forgets the necessities – aka light bulbs. Since these energy-efficient bulbs last for 15 years, I no longer have to worry about replacing them all the time OR having one burn out mid-makeup application. This is a game-changer.
WHAT TYPE OF WATTAGE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE
Now that we’ve established you need Finally Light Bulbs, the question remains: what type of wattage do you buy? Going overboard on wattage can make your house feel like a hospital, and too little wattage will make your house feel drab. Choosing the right wattage can take a bit or trial and error, but staying between 60-100 watts is your best bet.
Since I have a lot of natural sunlight in my bathroom, I like to use a 75 watt bulb to illuminate my face without going overboard. It gives a natural look to my skin to help with color matching, blending, and concealing. When I moved into my house, I turned a guest bedroom into my “cloffice” (you know, closet + office) and replaced the ceiling fan with a chic chandelier. I later realized I don’t have much natural light in here, so I use a 100 watt bulb in my cloffice for extra brightness to mimic natural light.
Whether you’re looking for the best lighting for your makeup routine, or you’re simply looking for the best energy-efficient lighting source on the market, you can’t go wrong with Finally! For more information or to order online, click here to visit their website!
