3 Ways To Style A Top Knot Headband

How to style a top knot Headband (2 of 3)

Lately the headband trend has been popping up everywhere, and I absolutely love it!  It’s such a fun and easy way to add a twist on your everyday look. Since I typically style my hair down with loose curls, headbands are an easy way to mix up my everyday look.

I’ve seen top knot headbands being sold at tons of different retailers at a wide range of prices, from this $225 one from Shopbop to this $4 one at Forever 21. Since this trend probably won’t last forever, I wouldn’t recommend splurging on a designer headband. Instead, order a handful of colorful prints and solids to mix and match with your outfits! Blair found the cutest metallic headband at Charming Charlie (that I immediately borrowed), and I picked up so many fun prints at Forever 21 before my Mexico trip – proof you don’t have to spend a lot to pull off this trend!

STYLES:

There are numerous types of headbands to pull of this trend: the standard headband that stops behind your ears, the full wrap/elastic band, and the simple scarf you can tie on your own (note: I prefer the first two!).  You can’t go wrong with any of them, but my sisters and I have been wearing the full wraps the most!

HOW TO WEAR:

1 – Under Your Hair

The easiest way to wear the top knot headband is to style is like a traditional headband – under your hair so your hair flows over it. This is a more feminine/classic way to style it, plus it’s also a great way to show off last night’s curls without your hair looking flat at the roots! Since the band is beneath your curls, it adds extra body and volume to your hair!

2 – Over Your Hair:

For an edgier look, style the headband above your hair like a crown. I wore my hair like this on the beach, which was great because the band kept my hair from blowing around too much with the breeze!

3 – Styled With A Ponytail:

Another way to style a top knot headband is to wear it with a ponytail. I’m usually not a big fan of ponytails if I’m out and about, but I love how a headband dresses up the look! Plus if you’re wearing a ponytail specifically because you’re having a bad hair day, the headband is the perfect accessory to dress up your look and distract from your roots!
