Janie’s Sip & See: A Dreamy Backyard Boho Celebration

Sip and See outfit ideas

We’re so excited to FINALLY share Janie’s Sip & See today on the blog! With weddings and babies in the mix, party planning has definitely ramped up in our lives – and it has been so much fun. Baby Caroline is absolutely precious, so we were thrilled to host a party to celebrate Janie’s new role as a mom. We had the best time throwing a festive gathering for all of her friends to meet Caroline!

We had planned to throw a baby shower this past Spring for Janie, but since the last four months of her pregnancy were during the start of the pandemic and her health was the priority, we decided to postpone the shower and plan a Sip & See for when things resumed to normal. Fast forward to Fall and quarantine was still going on, so we shifted the plan to a backyard Sip & See at my house with a small group of friends and family – and it was a dream!

Our friend, Becca, volunteered to co-host the shower with us and took the lead on vision and decor. I’m still blown away with the dreamy, bohemian set up she created! Needless to say, a party planning business needs to be in her future ;)

Last year we shared Blair’s baby shower and tips for planning a shower, and our number one suggestion is to host as a team! Becca handled decor, Blair was in charge of food and drinks, and I made all of the balloon displays for the event. Dividing all of the tasks made it easy and fun, plus we knew nothing would be overlooked!

THE LAYOUT

Becca had the idea to create a whimsical setting with a long picnic table over layered rugs and pillows. She hired a local company called The Styled Affair, and they were amazing to work with! They showed up an hour before the party and brought all of the rugs, the table, poufs, and plates/glasses. They really brought the space to life, and the casual layout made the overall vibe so relaxed and fun! If you’re planning a party in Dallas, I highly recommend using them. They were a dream team and made the set up so easy!

THE TABLESCAPE & FLORALS

The tablescape was one of our favorite parts of the party, and I love the boho decor Becca chose for the table! She designed these creative baby’s breath arrangements and spray painted them in ombre pinks for a whimsical touch. They were stunning! She also added a few vases with dried flowers, tapered candles, and elegant place settings – and I love how it looked combined with the casual picnic setting! In addition, she made all of these beautiful acrylic place cards (you can order similar ones here!) to tie the look together and make the table feel personal!

THE FOOD

Since Blair is an expert baby shower attendee and planner, she was in charge of all of the food and beverages for the party! She hired a local caterer to make finger sandwiches, petite quiches, and a variety of hors d’oeuvres for the party. Our mom and Blair found a local baker to create this feminine cake, and they added a Spring wreath to the base which was a creative way to dress up a simple cake stand!

Mimosa bars are such a fun and easy way to plan cocktails for a shower. We used a mix of pitchers and decanters for juices, and kept everything chilled with an heirloom silver bowl and an acrylic beverage tub. An easy trick for dressing up your beverage bar: place colorful paper straws in champagne flutes for an extra touch.

One item that I’ve surprisingly used endlessly over the years is this acrylic donut stand! It’s a festive way to serve colorful donuts for a party or perfect for creating a bagel bar for brunch. If you don’t have one, I highly recommend ordering this set!

To elevate the spread, Becca used a mix of risers and cake stands to add height and dimension to the table – and I love how this simple trick made such a difference!

THE BALLOONS

Quarantine has brought out a lot of hobbies in many of us and making balloon garland has definitely become my favorite! I feel like no party is complete without balloons, so we filled these BABY letters with bright pink balloons and layered a statement garland over it. It was an easy (and affordable!) way to add a statement to the backyard, and bring in allll the pink to celebrate Baby Caroline! (Hint: if you decide to make balloon garland, be sure to order this pump to save yourself a lot of time and energy!)
