5 Denim Trends To Wear Instead Of Skinny Jeans

skinny jeans out of style

You’ve probably heard by now, but Gen Z has officially labeled skinny jeans “out of style”. While I personally wouldn’t change my style due to a younger crowd labeling millennials as “old”, I am more than thrilled about all of the new denim styles available this season! I highlighted some of my favorite new denim trends here, but today I wanted to share my favorite alternatives to the classic skinny jeans!

First of all, skinny jeans are timeless – so whether you want to try a new trend or stick to your favorite skinnies, you won’t be “out of style” either way. This isn’t the first time I’ve said it nor the last, but I personally prefer any denim style over skinnies. While they are chic, timeless, and flattering on most – I’ve never been the biggest fan. I’ve always felt they made me look shorter, plus no matter the size or the amount of stretch, you’re still squeezed in – and living in the Texas heat, this girl prefers the breeze of flares!

If you’re a tried and true skinny jeans fan, the new trends may not strike your fancy – but trust me, there are so many chic silhouettes to match your style, and once you try them, you won’t regret it!

STRAIGHT JEANS

The name says it all: straight. These jeans are basically the mix between wide-leg denim and skinnies, and quite frankly a style I would never be caught dead in 10 years ago! I must say though, I am LOVING these this season! Since the fit is a bit slouchy, pair them with a fitted top or a feminine blouse tucked in with a pair of heels or sandals to look tailored and sophisticated.

CROPPED JEANS

If you’re weary about straying from your favorite skinnies, cropped jeans are the best option for you! I have been a big fan of cropped jeans for while, and I feel like they are so much more flattering on my 5’4 frame. A simple straight leg pair like this is the perfect transition from skinny jeans. If you love a cropped flare like I do, these have been my ultimate favorite for years!

DISTRESSED JEANS

My husband is always in disbelief that women would actually PAY for a pair of jeans with holes in them, but distressed jeans are such a big trend this season and I love the casual chic feel they add to any look. Pair them with a classic white tee for an effortless cool vibe or dress them up with a girly blouse and heels. While they won’t pass the dress code at the office, they are definitely a weekend favorite.

FLARED & BOOTCUT JEANS

Let me start by saying, I never stopped wearing flares when they “went out of style” over a decade ago. Yes, they were totally faux pas for a few years – but the silhouette is so flattering, and I love how I can sneak a pair of sky high wedges underneath to elongate my frame. Needless to say, I’m thrilled to see so many new flared styles this season and they are an absolute must. Dress them up with wedges for a night out or pair them with sneakers and a tee for a casual look.

WHITE JEANS

White jeans are a staple in any wardrobe, and needless to say these will always be in style. Switch up your favorite white skinnies with a pair of cropped white denim and sandals for your beach day look, or dress up a pair of these feminine white flares with heels and a statement blouse for a night out.

Whether your style is classic, conservative, boho, or fashion-forward, these denim trends are such a fun way to switch up your wardrobe! We hope you love these new trends as much as we do!
