HOW TO GET THERE:
The W Maldives is located on Fesdu Island, which is part of the North Ari Atoll in the central part of the Maldives. Once you land in Male, you will visit the W lounge at the airport. Here you will fill out paperwork in regards to your flight to the hotel, grab a beverage, and wait for your seaplane. If you’re a nervous flyer, note: the sea plane has a lot of turbulence – but the 20-minute flight to get to the hotel is worth it and the views are incredible!
While the trek to Male is a stretch, adding a long layover to one of your connections makes the journey exciting (even though it adds to your travel time). If you are traveling across the world, you may as well add a stop along the way! Click here to read about my first stop in Sri Lanka after.Â
Once you check into the hotel, you are greeted with a beverage and cold towel before hopping on a golf cart for a tour of the resort and a ride to your bungalow. It’s the perfect way to explore the island after a long travel journey.
THE ACCOMMODATIONS:
The W Hotel offers 77 beach villas and overwater bungalows, with each option offering total seclusion and privacy. If you’re traveling to the Maldives, it’s safe to say you are going to want an overwater bungalow!
The W overwater bungalows feature a cozy king bed, expansive deck with a private plunge pool, deep soaking tubs, Bose speakers, and all of the best Bliss products for pampering. My favorite part of the room was definitely the glass viewing hole in the middle of the bedroom where you could see fish swimming by – adorable.
THE CUISINE:
The property featured 3 restaurants for dining – and I recommend all of them! I started each day with a complimentary breakfast at Kitchen, and the buffet had everything you could imagine. I also dined here for dinner, and it was a great spot to enjoy a quiet meal outdoors.
For a more formal dinner, Fire offers dining on the sand with a jungle-themed ambiance and it was my favorite dinner of my stay. Lastly, Fish was the go-to spot for sushi – and some of the best sushi I’ve ever had (no surprise considering you’re literally surrounded by water!). The reservations book up quickly, so book your reservation when you check in to guarantee you’ll have to try it.
Following dinner, head over to Sip. Keeping in pure W fashion, the overwater bar features a DJ every night, so the vibe is definitely energetic and a lot of fun.
