Hotel Lilla Roberts: Helsinki’s Art Deco-Inspired Hideaway

Hotel Lilla Roberts Blog

While this post is in partnership with Visit Finland, Finnair, and Hotel Lilla Roberts, the opinions expressed are my own.

After a whirlwind adventure throughout Finland and Estonia (which we shared on Instagram), I’m excited to kickstart our new travel series featuring all of the destinations we visited. Whether you’re planning a future vacation or looking for inspiration for your travel bucket list, Finland stole my heart – and I can’t wait to share everything we loved about this journey!

Choosing the right hotel for your vacation can make all the difference in your overall experience, and there’s nothing I love more than a luxurious boutique hotel that combines history and elements of the destination throughout the design. While we started and ended our trip in Helsinki, we began our journey at the Hotel Lilla Roberts and fell in love with the property

THE LOCATION

Located in the trendy Kaartinkapunki design district, Hotel Lilla Roberts is a chic boutique hotel just a short walk from the Esplanade, all of the best restaurants, designer boutiques, the coastline, and more. Situated on a quiet and serene street, this hotel is the perfect place to access all that Helsinki has to offer. This charming hotel was steps away from almost all of the places we planned to visit in the city, and we never had to call a taxi during our time in Helsinki – always a plus!

THE BRAND

Hotel Lilla Roberts is a part of the Finnish hotel group, Kämp Collection Hotels, and we stayed in two of their properties during our journey throughout Finland (more to come on this). Hotel Lilla Roberts has an art deco-inspired design with influences from the 1930s, complete with dark and moody hues for a glam yet cozy stay!

THE FASHION

What makes the hotel so unique is the element of fashion within the brand, making it no surprise Vogue featured this property in their Helsinki guide! The hotel partners with a different fashion designer each month to showcase pieces from the collection. This month, the hotel featured Anni Ruth, whose collections are inspired by the feminine elegance of ballet – and the pieces were stunning! The only thing better than checking into a fabulous hotel is being greeted with gorgeous couture in the lobby.

THE ROOMS

The hotel offers 130 guest rooms throughout the property, ranging from standard rooms to large suites. While Brooke and I bunked up at all of our other hotels, we each had our own Style Suite (next to each other, of course!) and it was the best way to kickstart our journey with an amazing night of sleep to avoid any jet lag!  Our room has a beautiful view of the city and seeing the snow fall early in the morning with coffee in bed was a true delight! The suites also offered beautiful bathrooms stocked with amazing products and GHD Blow Dryers – Brooke’s personal favorite!

THE CUISINE

Since I was traveling with a foodie (highly recommend!), we had researched all of the restaurants we wanted to try before arriving – and Krog Roba within the hotel made the list! While we never had a chance to try their highly-reviewed Nordic three-course dinner, we loved spending each morning here to catch up on a little work and enjoy the delicious breakfast buffet to gear up for a day of exploring. Also, I highly recommend the morning vitamin shots provided for a boost of energy! We also loved grabbing a glass of wine each night at Bar Lilla E before our evening strolls to dinner.

THE HISTORY

The building that now houses the ultra-chic Hotel Lilla Roberts was originally built in 1908 by a renowned Finnish architect, Selim A Linqvist, who is responsible for designing some of the most iconic buildings throughout Helsinki. The building originally served as the head office for a power plant that provided most of the energy for the city center throughout the 20th century, and later housed the Helsinki Police Department until 2012. With an establishment holding so much history, it was such a unique hotel to visit to get a taste of Helsinki’s past and elements from the original businesses remain today!
