Vacation Snapshots: The Greenbrier Resort

This year we decided to spend the holidays at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Though I absolutely love going home to Destin, Florida any chance I can take a break from the office, something about the mountains feels more like Christmas than the white sandy beaches. If you are not familiar with the Greenbrier, I recommend you add it to your bucket list. Since 1778, the resort has been a desirable vacation destination for many with its fascinating history of the underground Bunker established by the US government during the Cold War (Learn more about the Bunker history here). What I love most about the Greenbrier is the lavish décor designed by the famous Dorothy Draper. Colors and patterns explode through the historic resort giving a one-of-a-kind elegance that guests have come to love about America’s Resort. Dorothy Draper is also credited for the interior designs of the Dallas Stonleigh Hotel penthouse suites (see our posts here and here), among many others. Since retirement, Draper’s protégé, Carleton Varney, continues to serve as the Designer/Curator for the Greenbrier Resort and as President of Dorothy Draper & Co.

The Greenbrier Resort is home of the Greenbrier Classic PGA Tour event, which is the oldest course currently used for a PGA Tour. This was the view from our lunch at Sam Snead’s at the Golf Club. The mountains and the horse-drawn carriage made me wish I could stay there forever! 1557622_10201056281040591_1935315732_n 1508976_10201056283320648_933050935_n

The Resort had endless hallways of boutiques, which led to a little a little retail therapy. The shoe store was obviously a favorite of mine, considering we stopped by everyday! However, our matching Greenbrier robes below definitely take the cake as my favorite purchase of the trip – who says we are too old to match? 1521489_10201056287920763_224566857_n 1016355_10201056291560854_1597580493_n
Like we mentioned before, Lanz gowns are a tradition in our family. Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without them!
1554540_10201056296000965_426813490_nWe stayed busy all week with the numerous activities available at the Resort. My favorite was the bowling alley in the hotel. Other activities included ice skating, horseback riding, golf, swimming, croquet, hunting, falconry, tennis, and more. For those of you looking for a more relaxing vacation, I definitely recommend stopping by the spa for a little R&R followed by afternoon tea in the ballroom.

Designer Spotlight: Hadleigh’s

Designer Spotlight: Hadleigh’s

When it comes to closet staples for Fall, a solid pair of comfy flats are key. I just picked up a pair of these navy and orange Hadleigh’s smoking slippers from Bergdorfs to give my favorite Revas a break for my recent trip to Destin. These shoes not only feel like I’m walking on clouds, but they are absolutely adorable as well! The smoking slipper is a classic, preppy shoe that has been around for ages, but Hadleigh’s has reinvented the slipper with their array of fun colors and textures to add a little pop to your shoe collection.

Though Hadleigh’s slippers are carried at retailers around the nation, such as Neimans and Bergdorfs, the company actually began in Dallas in 2009. Ed and Gable Shaikh took their knowledge of the fashion world they gained from working with Ralph Lauren, Stanley Korshak, as well as other large names in fashion, to start their own line four years ago. Named after their oldest daughter, Hadleigh’s has quickly gained fame for their quality products. What differentiates Hadleigh’s Bespoke from other luxury retailers is their focus on individually, customized tailored clothing. So whether you are looking for a classic pair of slippers or a full new wardrobe, Hadleigh’s has you covered. If you are ever in the Dallas area, be sure to stop by their flagship store in Highland Park Village – you will not be disappointed.

A Seaside Christmas

A Seaside Christmas

We are very fortunate to have our “home away from Dallas” be a beautiful tourist destination in Florida!  A few miles away from our home, you can find the beautiful town of Seaside, also where the Truman Show was filmed.  Yesterday I had a few hours to waste, so I strolled in and out of the quaint shops and absolutely loved looking at all the beautiful Christmas decorations.  This is paradise.  There is nothing better than enjoying the beach off-season. This is absolutely spectacular!
