I don’t know about you, but some days I wake up and just want to toss on something comfy and casual. Since I am not a big “flats” person, wedge sneakers are my absolute favorite – and did I mention insanely comfortable? The past week has been a whirlwind of traveling from a wedding in Nashville, to our cabin in the Smokies, a visit to the Grove Park Inn, a weekend in Harkers Island, and everything in between! My first trip to Harkers Island was absolutely amazing, and I definitely fell in love with this relaxed beach town. A cozy sweater and cutoffs are my Fall beach day essentials. Are you a lover of J. Crew but sometimes hate the prices that seem to keep rising with each season? Well, you are not alone, and J. Crew is taking your needs into account! Behold, J. Crew Mercantile: the offspring of our favorite line which is in the works to bring a similar style to shoppers, but with a price point more along the lines of the J. Crew Factory Stores. What differentiates Mercantile from our favorite factory stores is the fact that these new stores will be situated in some of our favorite malls around the nation, rather than having to drive out of the city to scout out the outlet malls. Millard Drexler, CEO of J. Crew, once introduced Old Navy as a more affordable line of Gap, so we can only hope Mercantile will launch with that same success! With already a few leases signed and more locations in the works, we cannot wait to see what Mercantile will bring for all of our savvy shoppers!

When GM reached out to us to spend a week test driving cars for them, we were more than thrilled with the opportunity. We were each given a coupe, SUV, or electric car to use as our own and provide our personal feedback on the car. Since I normally drive a sedan, I chose to drive the Buick Encore for the week. Though aesthetically a bright blue car isn’t my top color choice, I really enjoyed all the features the car had to offer. The compact body shape was similar to Janie’s ML350, which made for an easy transition to a SUV for a sedan driver. The interior of the car featured two-toned leather on all of the seats, which was a new look I really enjoyed! In order to get a full feel of the Encore, we decided to take it on a fun weekend road trip.
My favorite part of the car was definitely the XM radio system. Rather than having to Shazaam my favorite songs on my phone, I could simply click one button and the system would store the song and download it on my iPhone. How amazing is that? Another feature that really stood out was the option to add a plug in the backseat – impromptu need for a curling iron? Buick has you covered.
Though this SUV is quite compact, it was definitely spacious… and for a family of girls that ALWAYS overpacks, a large trunk is definitely important! The Encore did not disappoint on that feature.
The only flaw I found on this car was that the front two seats shared ONE armrest. Two armrests would’ve been much better for a long journey! But like I said, it’s compact..
