Finding a way to balance my beauty routine with my busy schedule is often a challenge, since I work from home and spend my days juggling meetings before my evening events. As much as I would love to run by a salon for a fresh blowout, I often run short on time at the end of my day. Thanks to my new favorite app, Blownaway, I am now able to have my beauty services delivered to my own home!
Last week, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Blownaway App for their Fox 4 News segment, which aired in Dallas last night. Though I was familiar with the app, it was my first experience ordering a service, and let’s just say I am hoping to make this part of my weekly routine. The entire process was extremely easy, thanks to the sleek and simple beauty app. By logging into my account, I was able to choose my hairstyle, time, and beauty application add-on to arrive at my apartment at 9AM.
The adorable Shyla Ryan, who is a favorite among the Miss Texas contestants, arrived at my house bright and early with products and tools galore. Within an hour, I went from barefaced and wet hair to glamorous curls and glowing skin! What impressed me the most was how my hair and makeup stayed fresh and perfect ALL day, without having to add any touchups before dinner with friends! Shyla and I had so much fun chatting and dancing to music, and the overall experience was such a blast!
Blownaway App is dedicated to finding the highest quality hair and makeup artists throughout the area, and guarantees a professional, yet easy, experience to all customers. By offering a variety of blowout styles from “CEO” to “Nightclub”, with makeup application and hair braiding or updo add-ons, Blownaway is my new go-to for event prep makeovers or a fun excuse for a group glam session with my girlfriends. Blownaway is also the perfect service to book for wedding makeovers for a bridal party! By offering $10 off blowouts and makeup with the code “PRNLSTYL” at checkout, this is one beauty service you definitely need to try out!

This past week, we hosted a bridal shower for one of my closest friends here in Texas. The shower was hosted at Sissy’s in Dallas, and we had an amazing time catching up on the wedding plans, enjoying delicious southern food, and sipping on Tipsy Palmers.
We know you can read all about wedding shower etiquette on Emily Post, so we wanted to focus on the other fun parts of a shower- the flowers, gifts, and (of course) fashion!
I love to find out the bride’s favorite color or type of flower and choose arrangements to match her style. In the photos below, you can see that we went with a Southern Classic theme to represent our southern belle bride! It’s fun to choose a color theme different from the wedding just for variety.
As for gifts, monogram it! China and silver are such classic wedding gifts, but I think it’s fun to give a more personal gift at a shower, since the bride will be opening it in front of the guests. We decided to do a group gift from the bridesmaids, so we chose a large silver monogram tray and a monogram bracelet with her wedding dates. She also received beautiful linens, personalized soaps, cookbooks, and Le Creuset baking dishes.

We loved it when Sara’s fiancé surprised her with a bouquet of flowers at the shower

So now, what to wear! Only the bride should be in all white, so be sure to steer clear of solid white, ivory, or any other very light toned dress. Most of our friends love Lilly Pulitzer, Trina Turk, DVF, Alice & Olivia, and M Missoni sundresses for these occasions- obviously paired with the perfect wedge. Below are some of our favorite picks for what to wear to your next bridal shower:

This past weekend, we co-hosted a party with our close friend, Sara Scheible, to showcase one of our favorite dishware companies, Dishique, in Dallas. For four girls who love events and parties, why not host one of our own? Sara was so sweet to host the event at her place in uptown. It was the perfect excuse to have a girl’s day and indulge in sweets, blood orange mimosas, and do a little shopping! In case you aren’t familiar with Dishique, be sure to see our post here for more information about the company. Whether you are looking to stock your house for the perfect dinner party or find a custom gift for your next wedding shower, Dishique has you covered. Take a look at some of the pictures from the event and check out their website to see how you too can host an event!

No party is complete without mimosas! We chose a Blood Orange juice to spice up our favorite morning cocktail.
The Dothan, AL plate is our favorite of course, since it represents our hometown!

Growing up in South Alabama, I was raised to understand the importance of having the appropriate china for any occasion. Now that I am married and nesting in my own home, my love for tableware has only intensified. I am excited to spotlight one of my new favorite companies today, Dishique! Megan Dalbey Steffen, co-founder of Dishique, and I danced together on the high school dance team back in Alabama, which is where I discovered her incredible artistic ability. After venturing to UGA for college, Megan moved to Chicago and began this adorable dish company with her husband! Since I am frequently attending showers, I definitely appreciate original gift ideas and this is my place to go! One of my favorite styles of dishes designed by Dishique would be the hometown collection. Though I am no longer living in Alabama, this plate brings a pinch of hometown charm to my dinner parties. We recently spoke with Megan about her inspiration and process behind her company – Check out what we learned!
What inspired you to create a dishware company?
My husband and I wanted to start something ourselves- a lifetime goal if you will. We wanted to grow a business and learn about the process together. We joke that I like to design and he likes to eat, so creating dinnerware was the perfect middle ground! However, in all seriousness, I’ve always had a collection of artful drawings and I wanted to put them to use. We researched many a different processes and products that we could use this art on, and decided to try decorating ceramics because it seemed like an interesting journey to both of us.

We absolutely love the custom city plates. Do you think you’ll branch out with more cities in the future? A Dallas plate would be the perfect touch to our new home.
Of course! I’m actually working on lots of new urban collections including Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Nashville, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Louisville. Dallas would be super and I’ll certainly add it to my list! Sometimes I wish I had 4 more hands to create more! :)
How long do custom order typically take?
Our lead time for custom orders is typically 2-4 weeks. We’ve done lots of completely custom work too. For instance, we’ve made dessert plates for weddings with the couple’s monogram emblem as well as coffee mugs with adorable lobsters! The sky is the limit. If it’s something we can get our hands on, we’re typically game to try. Completely custom orders take around 4-6 weeks – depending on the quantity and design.
It says you design, create, and fire each individual item. We love a unique and handmade product. Could you tell us more about this process? Do you have a kiln in your house?
The process is fairly simple, but as we’ve learned, very tedious and tricky. Our artwork is made into special decals, that we hand apply to each item. The porcelain item then gets re-fired in a kiln so that the decal becomes part of the glaze. This makes it dishwasher and microwave safe. When we first started we knew we needed access to a kiln, but didn’t know the first thing about a kiln, let alone how to operate a kiln. So we actually drove about 2 hours to pay these fabulous, Wisconsin artsy ladies to use their kiln. It was a wild experience that we laugh about today. Once we got our samples back, we knew we were going to need to bite the bullet, so we bought our first kiln. We purchased a kiln and honestly didn’t even know how to turn the thing on…but we’ve learned, a lot! So, we currently have one kiln (and are shopping for a second) that is in our basement.
