From hair extensions to self tanners, it’s pretty crazy how simple beauty treatments can quickly and easily enhance your look. I’m always up for trying a new treatment, because let’s be real, who doesn’t enjoy a makeover? I’ve heard about lash extensions for years, but until this week, I had never tried them. Since I’ve started wearing Ardell strip lashes (can’t forget THIS glue if you try them) to almost every event, I figured why not see what all the hype is about for semi-permanent lash extensions.
The number one thing to remember when getting lash extensions is to find a reputable salon. Sure Groupon is full of incredible deals on lashes – but do you really want to risk it on something like this? I didn’t think so.
Amazing Lash Dallas is a new salon in the DFW area that specializes in lash extensions for every style. Though there are a lot of locations around the area, I got my first set in Garland and I was more than impressed with the salon. The stylists were super friendly and professional and made the entire process a breeze. If you’re interested in trying lash extensions, here are some tips I learned:
Before your appointment:
Do not wear any makeup. Your lashes need to be product-free to achieve the best adhesive.
Lash Options:
Just like any other service, choosing lash extensions is not really black and white. You can choose from a variety of lengths, thicknesses, and styles. I was overwhelmed with all of the options available, but since I wanted a natural look with a glamourous touch, my stylist suggested thicker lashes, 12 length, and the “gorgeous” shape. Other shapes you can choose from are “natural”, “sexy”, and “cute”.
The Process:
Similar to hair extensions, getting lash extensions is a very tedious process. The stylist will apply adhesive pads below your eyes to prevent the glue from sticking to your lower lashes – it’s an odd sensation, but you get used to it! The stylist will then glue each extension strand to individual lashes to give a fuller look. Overall it takes about 1.5-2 hours for the entire process, but the spa music and comfy bed makes it surprisingly relaxing!
48 Hours After:
In order to make the most of your lashes, there are certain things to avoid to allow the bonding agent to fully dry and create a lasting hold. Avoid getting the lashes wet, working out or sweating, sleeping face down or on your sides (that’s a hard one!), exposing your lashes to steam, using makeup around your eyes, or receiving any facial treatments. It’s a bit of a pain when you realize how many of these things are involved in your normal routine, but avoiding them for 48 hours really helps your lashes in the long run!
Caring For Your Lashes:
Following the 48 hours, you can return to your normal routine – BUT there are still certain things to remember and incorporate into your daily routine. You should use an antibacterial wash on your lashes twice a day and then brush your lashes after with a product-free mascara wand. Also, avoid waterproof eye cosmetics, lash curlers, and steam. The bond is strong, but you still have to care for lash extensions slightly different than real lashes!
Overall, I am completely obsessed with my new lashes! Each set lasts about 3-4 weeks, so I have another appointment set for a touch up next month. Having long, glamourous lashes without even having to apply mascara makes the process SO worth it! If you guys have ever considered lash extensions but weren’t sure if they would be worth it, take my word, I love them!
