How To Style A Chic Floral Arrangement

Since I’ve moved into my new home, the one thing I do EVERY Sunday is pick up a new floral arrangement for my home. I love having fresh flowers around my house, and choosing a new bouquet each week always feels like a mini home makeover. While a simple hydrangea bouquet has always been my favorite, I recently discovered a new love of floral arrangements – thanks to my one-on-one floral workshop with the celebrity-favorite, party-planning expert: Debi Lilly (click here to learn more). Thanks to the launch of this new collection, you can create your own custom floral arrangement at your local Tom Thumb, Albertsons, and Market Street store using florals from the debi lilly  design Wedding Pairings Collection!

In my workshop I learned all about the new floral trends for summer (click here to read my post on floral trends!), but what I loved most was discovering how a little creativity and mixing and matching can take my floral arrangements to the next level, without spending a ton on professionally designed arrangements. From ornate vases to adding in unique elements, a simple arrangement can quickly turn into a beautiful (and personalized) design.

Today I’m sharing how you can also create the perfect arrangement with these 5 easy steps:

  1. Choose A Chic Vase

Choosing a unique vase is always one of my favorite tips for creating a floral arrangement. While I always love a simple glass vase, adding flowers to an ornate vase is a simple way to make your arrangement really stand out! The new debi lilly design™ collection features so many fun vases from rose gold cylinders for large arrangements to mint julep cups for smaller arrangements.

How To Make a Floral Arrangement

  1. Decide On Your Color Scheme

The next step to creating a floral arrangement is to decide on your color scheme. While you can mix in greenery and colorful elements, deciding on the overall color palette will help inspire the rest of your design.

  1. Choose Your Floral Element

Your floral element generally influences the main color palette of your arrangement. Following along with greenery as one of the top four floral trends, I chose green hydrangeas as my floral element for this arrangement.

  1. Choose Your Greenery Elements

While any arrangement will look beautiful in a vase, the next two steps will take your arrangement to the next level. Choose a selection of contrasting greenery and add these around the edges of your arrangement to add extra depth and make your arrangement really stand out.  You can also mix greenery into your main florals. For this arrangement, we used dusty miller – which is my new favorite bouquet addition! Salal leaves are always great to use in arrangements as well.

  1. Mix In Textures, Berries, And Unique Elements

Just like with any project, the final touches are the ones that really make an impact! To add a unique flair to your arrangement, add in some unexpected touches like different textures, berries, or unique accents. I added some hypercium berries and scabiosa pods into this arrangement. Get creative with your arrangements and don’t be afraid to mix and match!

Tip: Cut the stems at an angle to keep your flowers alive longer!

Since so many of our friends are getting married and wedding planning right now, we are always looking for fun party ideas. Consider incorporating a floral design station into bridal luncheon or shower activity. Together you can create a spread of florals and vases to style at the reception or send home with your guests! It’s simple and easy to do, plus a fun activity!
