Designer Spotlight: Self-Portrait

If I could choose one label to wear solely for 2018, that label would be Self-Portrait without a doubt. Now I am sure most of you know about Self-Portrait by now, but aside from the signature lace and feminine detail, do you know the man behind the label?

As much as I love finding brands I love, I think the most fascinating part about a brand is discovering the story behind it. Where a label comes from and what originally inspired the collection is what makes each piece so unique. Meet Malaysian-born designer, Han Chong. After jump-starting his career in fashion after studying at Central Saint Martins in London – Alexander McQueen studied here as well – Chong launched Self-Portrait in 2013 as his first solo collection.Though be began his career by co-founding the label Three Floor, Self-Portrait was his first attempt at his own label – and the brand has skyrocketed over the years!

What I love most about Self-Portrait is the collection features pieces with high-end detailing at accessible prices, allowing women to feel special without the luxury price tag. It’s so refreshing to discover a label that’s worn by celebrities on the red-carpet, but also a brand that women can shop at a local department store. It’s accessible luxury that all women can wear and feel special! The collections are designed for the woman who wants to stand out. From the feminine ruffles to the gorgeous lace and mesh detailing, each piece makes a statement.

While this dress was the original piece that made me fall in love with Self-Portrait, I love seeing how each collection evolves. My current favorite is this navy ruffle mini dress that I wore for my anniversary with Scott last week. The ruffles are flirty and girly, and the flared sleeves are so on trend for the moment. With the play on volume, the dress is super flattering and highlights all the right places!
