The Broadmoor: A Luxurious Getaway In Colorado Springs

Discover The Broadmoor: a magnificent resort in the picturesque mountains of Colorado Springs filled with a century of history, luxury, and outdoor adventure.

As the longest-running Forbes Five Star and AAA Five-Diamond Resort in the world, it’s no surprise this resort is packed with rich history and timeless elegance. Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, a romantic getaway, outdoor adventure, or simply a luxurious resort for a weekend of R&R, The Broadmoor has a bit of everything, making this the perfect resort to satisfy every traveler’s taste!

My family has always loved to travel, especially for the holidays, and this is where my love of exploring new hotels and destinations originated. After many Thanksgivings at The Fairmont Banff Springs and countless Club Med getaways in the summer, we have had so much fun switching up the routine and visiting new resorts together.

Since my sisters were spending Thanksgiving with their in-laws this year, my parents and I decided to spend the holiday at The Broadmoor! What I love about The Broadmoor is that it reminds me a lot of The Greenbrier and The Homestead, but a much easier travel journey! With a direct flight from Dallas to Colorado Springs and a (~15 minute drive), it’s the perfect place to escape for a weekend of quality time and relaxation.

While this was not my first trip to The Broadmoor, it was my first winter visit – and the mountain views combined with all of the holiday decor made this resort the perfect destination to cozy up by the fire and spend time with the family.

The Rooms

Since The Broadmoor is such a large and expansive property, the resort offers 784 rooms for guests to stay in – ranging from standard to elaborate suites to accomodate your whole family.

My parents decided to upgrade my room to a suite for a fun holiday surprise, and my room had more than enough space for myself! My favorite part of the room was definitely the patio overlooking the gorgeous lake, and of course the deep soaking tub! Safe to say, I could’ve moved in and been very happy!

If you’re traveling with family, The Broadmoor offers a selection of cottages, brownstones, and the Estate House as well!

Once you’ve experienced The Broadmoor, be sure to add their Wilderness Experiences to your travel bucket list. Read more about each one below:

The Restaurants

If you’re a foodie, you will not be disappointed by the resort restaurants! The wide selection of award-winning restaurants expands upon multiple cuisines, so you never need to leave the resort to satisfy your taste buds. We had a fabulous Thanksgiving brunch in the beautiful Lake Terrace dining room, which I highly recommend if you are traveling over the holidays.

If you’re looking for a lively night, one of my favorite spots was definitely The Golden Bee. This cozy pub is known for their sing-alongs, where a piano player offers songbooks and keeps the crowd entertained all night. Highly recommend! Fun fact, don’t be surprised when someone slings a golden bee on your outfit. I still keep finding them in random places throughout my home, and it brings a smile to my face everytime!

Fun Facts About The Broadmoor

As a hotel with over 100 years of history, there are definitely so many fun stories about the resort over the years. We highly recommend taking the free history tour of the hotel. While a history tour may not sound like the most exciting activity on your vacation, we thoroughly enjoyed it and made us fall in love with the resort even more!

The Hundred Million Dollar Club

The founder of the hotel, Spencer Penrose, had a genius marketing strategy. In 1920, Penrose invited a group of the most prominent hotel associates for an all-inclusive celebration at the hotel, with no expense spared. All of the men were given a car for their stay and enjoyed lavish parties, golf, polo, plane rides, and celebrated to the nines. Nedless to say, this group helped put The Broadmoor on the map, and the Hundred Million Dollar Club helped bring fame and fortune to this sprawling resort!

Art History

As a way to spread awareness of the resort to other cities, the resort commissioned an artist to paint gorgeous portraits of the hotel and grounds to encourage travelers to visit. The paintings remain throughout the resort, and the collection of art throughout The Broadmoor is remarkable! What makes this historic fact extra fun is the artist commissioned to paint these paintings had never visited the destination and some of the artwork depicts a different heritage of Colorado’s past. I challenge you to explore the resort and find them!

Celebrity Hallway

Countless celebrities have visited (and continue) to visit The Broadmoor. Take a stroll down the celebrity hallway to see all of the famous guests from royalty to former presidents to celebrities and more!

Roses & Swans

Spencer Penrose had a love of roses, which you will spot throughout the resort in the details of the architecture and decor. Similarily, his wife had a love of swans, which can also be found throughout the hotel!

European Influence

When you enter the main sitting room in the original building of The Broadmoor, you’ll notice the architectural details of the ceiling change as you pass through each room. Penrose’s wife designed this, and each room represents a different European country throughout the time period of the early 1900s.
